Christopher Gleason

Christopher Gleason is a cultural historian who writes on religion and sexuality in the United States. He completed his BA at Georgia State in 2008 with a double major in philosophy and religious studies. Prior to returning to Georgia State to complete his PhD in 2019, he completed a Master of Divinity at Golden Gate Theological Seminary (2011) and a Master of Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary (2013).
His work has been featured in media outlets such as The New Yorker, Time, and Vox, as well as on podcasts and radio. His book American Poly (Oxford 2023) is a narrative history that traces the countercultural religious origins of polyamory in American society. It won the Kinsey Institute’s 2024 Ken Haslam MD award for Relationship Diversity.
Gleason is also a passionate supporter of higher education in prison. He has taught courses in San Quentin and the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary and was a 2023 Correctional Education Leadership fellow with the Vera Institute for Justice. Through his work with Common Good Atlanta, he has helped administer programming in multiple GA prisons and he continues to foster collaboration between numerous prison ed programs across the state.
