Beryl Diamond

Dr. Beryl I. Diamond, Ph.D., is an adjunct professor of history at Georgia State. He teaches a variety of history courses ranging from the American and world history surveys to early modern European and English history as well as film history. A native of Atlanta, Dr. Diamond earned a Ph.D. in Early Modern English History from GSU more than two decades ago.

Diamond also teaches at Saint Leo University where he teaches both the American history survey and courses in “Global Perspectives” and “Democracy.” Additionally, he teaches the American and World history survey courses, as well as a Global Perspectives course at Atlanta’s Beulah Heights University.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Dr. Diamond is a retired 34-year veteran of the Georgia Department of Defense where he served as a public affairs officer. There he wrote speeches, press releases, and features for the public and the 15,000 members of the Georgia National Guard. He also served as the agency’s public affairs webmaster and worked in the department’s history, broadcast, and video sections. He is also a founding member of the Historical Society of the Georgia National Guard and a former editor of the organization’s publication, The Journal. He is a co-author of Hallowed Banners, Historic Flags in the Georgia Capitol Collection (Atlanta: Georgia Capitol Museum, 2005); and is currently working on a History of the Georgia Militia and National Guard, 1732-20012. He is also a contributor to the “New Georgia [online] Encyclopedia,” and The Atlanta Review of Journalism History. He is married and lives in the Atlanta area.
