Biography

Carolyn Zimmerman is a historian of Early Modern Europe with a research focus on Italy. Her dissertation, Defeat and Re-Playing Renaissance Civil Identity: The Academy of the Intronati in Siena, combines intellectual, cultural, and gender history while looking at sources, such as games, frequently ignored by modern historians. With funding from the Fulbright Foundation and the University of Miami (where she earned her PhD in 2015), she conducted dissertation research in Chicago, Florence, and Siena. While working on her book manuscript, she is currently teaching World History to 1500.
